A passenger narrowly escaped injury after a roof panel at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad almost fell on him.

Hyderabad: A man narrowly escaped injury after a roof panel at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad almost fell on him. Shashi Dharan, a passenger, was walking through the terminal when the panel came loose from the ceiling and fell to the ground.

Dharan shared pictures of the incident on Twitter, tagging Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia. He wrote, “God saved my life at Hyderabad airport today at 10.55 am. Till now no one came from GMR they don’t have QRT team at airport.”

Airport authorities expressed concern over the incident and said that the relevant team will investigate. A spokesperson for GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd (GHIAL) said, “We are aware of the incident and are taking it very seriously. We have ordered an immediate investigation into the matter.”

The spokesperson added that the airport has a Quick Response Team (QRT) that is trained to deal with such incidents. However, Dharan claims that no one from the QRT came to his aid until 15 minutes after the incident.

This is not the first time that there has been an incident of a roof panel falling at the Hyderabad airport. In 2017, a panel fell on a passenger’s head, causing minor injuries.

The airport authorities have said that they will take steps to prevent such incidents from happening again. They have also apologized to Dharan for the incident.
