Huge number of devotees offer prayers at Jama Masjid on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, security tightened

Delhi: Huge number of devotees were seen offering prayers at Jama Masjid of Delhi on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, said reports. A see of devotees congregated and offered namaz at Jama Masjid to mark the holy occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.

Eid-ul-Fitr is being celebrated in Delhi on Thursday as the moon was not sighted on Tuesday, the Committee deciding the dates said.

According to a statement issued by a Committee in Lucknow, the moon was not sighted on Tuesday and hence, the 30th Roza will be observed on Wednesday and Eid will be celebrated on Thursday. The main Eid namaaz will be offered at 10 am on Thursday.

Eid-ul-Fitr, the Muslim festival that marks the first day of ‘Shawwal’ after the fasting month of Ramzan ends, is being celebrated on Thursday. Security has been heightened on the occasion to avoid any untoward incident.

Muslims have been seen thronging markets during the last few days to buy new clothes, bakery, mutton, poultry, vegetables, toys, firecrackers for children and even new electronic gadgets. And today they were seen offering prayers at Jama Masjid in large numbers.

Shopkeepers and sweet sellers are busy refilling their shelves with fresh stocks as buyers indulge in feverish buying as if there would be no stocks unless they shout at shopkeepers for their turn.

Traditionally, Muslims offer the congregational Eid prayers at various Eidgahs and then embrace and greet each other.

Eid is an occasion when past bitterness and strained relationships are forgotten and the message of universal brotherhood fills the hearts and minds of Muslims.
