Two woman including a government doctor have been arrested after Tamil Nadu police busted a new born baby-selling racket in Namakkal.

Chennai: Two woman including a government doctor have been arrested after Tamil Nadu police busted a new born baby-selling racket in Namakkal district of the state.

The accused have been identifies as Anuradha and Logammal. The matter came to the fore when one Dinesh was contacted by Logammal, who claimed herself to be calling from the Thiruchengode Government Hospital. Reportedly, the accused offered Dinesh to buy the baby for Rs 2 lakh.

Shocked by the incident, Dinesh immediately informed the police about the incident. Based on the complaint, the police initiated an investigation and arrested Logammal.

During interrogation, the cops learned that Logammal used to sell newborn babies by buying them from their parents to childless couples. The police also learned that one Anuradha, a government doctor at Thiruchengode government hospital, was also involved in this infant-selling racket.

Following the incident, a case has been registered at the nearby police station and both the accused have been arrested.

Responding to the incident, Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma Subramaniam said, “The doctor has been suspended and a detailed investigation will be conducted to find how long such a racket was going on and who all are involved.”

Further investigation is underway.
