Fire breaks out at CGO Complex in New Delhi

New Delhi: A major fire broke out on the fifth floor of Pandit Deendayal Antyodaya Bhawan at CGO Complex in New Delhi Wednesday morning.

According to reports, the fire started at around 8.30 AM. As many as 28 fire tenders have rushed the spot to douse the blaze.

Officials said the fire has been brought under control and cooling operation is underway.

Though the cause of the fire is not yet known, officials said a short circuit could be the probable cause of the fire.

Meanwhile, a sub-inspector of the Central Industrial Security Police (CISF) fell unconscious after inhaling the smoke, but didn’t suffer any burn injury. He was rushed to the AIIMS for treatment. His condition was critical, as per latest reports.

The building, earlier known as Paryawaran Bhawan, houses many important central government offices including a branch of the Indian Air Force.

The 11-storeyed building also houses several ministries including Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Ministry of Social Justice Empowerment and Disability and the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.
