Chennai residents park cars on flyover to avoid losing vehicles like in 2015

Heavy rain in different parts of Tamil Nadu, especially in Chennai, has massively affected the normal life of the people. Most of them are finding all possible means to stay and keep their belongings safe.

In the meantime, a scene of cars being parked on both sides of the flyover at Velachery and Pallikaranai in Chennai has come to the fore. Residents of these areas have started parking their cars on the flyovers as the water level in their residential areas is slowly rising gradually due to heavy downpours.

Besides, more water from the Poondi and Chembarambakkam reservoirs is released.

According to media reports, people are scared of losing cars like in 2015 when many of them had lost their cars to the deluge.

The thenewsminute.com quoted one Ranganath, a businessman, who lives in Kambar Street in Velachery, saying that he parked his Baleno car on the Velachery flyover to avoid flood-related damage to the vehicle.

Ranganath claimed that water had entered his Ford Figo car and the vehicle was completely flooded in 2015 following a heavy rainfall.

“In 2015 itself, I struggled a lot and couldn’t get the insurance money and finally had to sell off my car for a very low rate. This time, I didn’t want to take any risk, so I’m parking the car on the flyover. Depending on the rain situation, I will decide what to do next,” the thenewsminute.com quoted Ranganath as saying.

Like Ranganath, several vehicle owners who have also parked their cars on the flying to keep their vehicles safe from the flood.

It is to be noted here that Chennai witnessed heavy rains yesterday as a well-marked low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal concentrated into a depression.

Meanwhile, IMD’s Deputy Director General of Meteorology S Balachandran predicted that the city would witness strong surface winds ranging between 40-45 km.
