4 trapped in 300-feet deep in Tamil Nadu quarry, Rescue operation on

Chennai: Atleast four workers remain trapped in a quarry last night in Tirunelveli district of Tamil Nadu, while two people have been rescued so far, police said today.

According to official, the workers were trapped about 300 feet deep in the quarry in the Muneer Pallam area after boulders rolled from the top.

Initially six workers had got stuck. On being informed, the fire officials have rescued two people and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) are on the way, informed Asra Garg, Inspector General of Police, Southern Range.

A helicopter was also brought in for the rescue operation this morning. Regarding the challenges the rescue team is facing, Mr Garg informed that the structure of the quarry is in such a manner that it would take time to rescue all the workers who are trapped.
