38 medical students penalized for making reels at Karnataka hospital premises

Bengaluru: At least 38 medical students have been penalized for recording Instagram reels on the hospital premises of the Gadag Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) in Karnataka.

The hospital management extended their housemanship training period by 10 days on Saturday for violating the hospital rules.

Speaking about the issue, Director of the institute, Dr. Basavaraj Bommanhalli, said, “There are 38 of them who did Instagram reels within the premises and violated the rules. This is a grave mistake. Whatever they wanted to do, they should have done it outside the hospital premises, avoiding inconvenience to the patients.”

“We haven’t granted any permission for such activities. They claimed it was recorded for the pre-graduation ceremony. We have taken cognizance of this. Their housemanship was supposed to end in the next 10–20 days, and we have extended that for another 10 days,” he further added.

The incident came to the fore after the videos of medical students dancing to Hindi and Kannada songs in the district hospital corridor went viral on internet.

This has come a day after the Health Minister of Karnataka, Dinesh Gundurao on Friday terminated a doctor from service, who got his pre-wedding photo-shoot done inside an operation theatre at the government hospital in Chitradurga district. Abhishek, a doctor attached to the Bharamasagara Government Hospital, had recently got his pre-wedding photo shoot done inside the operation theatre of the hospital.

The photos went viral on social media, drawing flak from the public.

One photo shows Abhishek performing surgery on a patient, while his fiancé is standing in front of him and helping him out.
