Most of the people in India travel by train. The Indian railway network is the fourth-largest rail network in the world. While traveling in the train, everyone wants his journey to be comfortable. But people are often troubled by the noise in the train, ticket checking, movement of passengers regarding the seat. Do you know that no one can disturb you without your consent? According to the rules of the Railways, even the Ticket Examiner (TTE) of the Railway cannot check your ticket while sleeping. Let us tell you about these railway rules.
TTE cannot check tickets after 10 pm
- During your journey, the Travel Ticket Examiner (TTE) comes to collect the ticket from you. Many times he wakes you up late in the night and asks you to show the ticket or ID. But, let us tell you, even TTE cannot disturb you after 10 pm. TTE is required to verify the tickets only between 6 am to 10 pm. No passenger can be disturbed after sleeping at night. This guideline is from the Railway Board.
The rule will not apply to those traveling after 10 pm
- However, this rule of the Railway Board will not apply to passengers traveling after 10 pm. That is, if you are sitting in the train after 10 pm, then TTE can check your ticket and ID.
Can sleep on middle berth only after 10 pm
- According to the rules of the railways, a passenger with a middle berth can sleep in his berth only from 10 pm to 6 am. That is, if a passenger wants to stop the opening of the middle berth before 10 pm, then you can stop him. At the same time, after 6 am, the berth will have to be lowered so that other passengers can sit on the lower berth. Many times the lower berth people stay awake till late night and the middle berth people have problems, so you can pick up your seat at 10 pm as per the rule.
Two stop rule
- If you miss your train, TTE cannot allot your seat to any other passenger for the next two stops or for the next one hour (whichever is earlier). This means that you can catch the train from any of the next two stops. After passing three stops, the TTE reserves the right to allot the seat to the next person in the RAC list.

“All train passengers must know these rules to avoid problems, check details”
Above article is not based on rules. It may misguide the passenger.

Can we travel with ticketless at 10:00pm to 6:00am
Please Post the rules with Circular.
Some are misleading and not as per rule
Most of the passengers don’t know that they can not sleep from 6 am to 10 pm. This problem is faced by most of the Sr.citizens because they are allotted lower berths and there are no notices kept in any of the coaches that passengers can sleep on their berth between 10 pm and 6 am only. One more request to the railway authorities to see that they insist the passengers to occupy their reserved seat only.
Please mention the rules on reserved booking ticket to avoid any controversy.
As per the rule no passenger in a sleeper berth should sleep between 6 am to 10pm
This rule is applicable to all the berth passengers including upper berth.
These rules are in book, in train it’s jungle rule, specially in Bihar, up, MP
Mr. Asif first mind your language, don’t blaming all by one person mistake. This is warning for you.
It’s better that exact rule nos. / relevant supporting details are given. This is much applicable for TTE examination of tkt after 10 pm of those who got into train @ say 7 pm & upto one hr can’t allot seat / berth of passenger missing train.
Incorrect and misleading article. Irresponsible to publish.
Please kindly follow all government rule and regulation because these all my priority.

Can we travel with ticketless at 10:00pm to 6:00am
This piece is so full of buull sheet. Following extract from Indian Railways official web site:
CANCELLATION OF RESERVATION DUE TO LATE ARRIVAL OF PASSENGER :
If a passenger, for whom a berth or seat has been reserved, does not turn up up to 10 minutes before the scheduled departure of the train, the Railway Administration may cancel the accommodation reserved for him and allot it to the passenger on the RAC list/Waiting list accordingly on priority.
That two station etc is load of rubbish.
Even about TTE checking tickets after 10 pm is misleading. TTE cannot disturb passengers who have already boarded, but when passenger boards after 10 pm, TTE will checks the teekat.
