New academic session of Odisha Schools to begin from May 1 with 100 per cent syllabus, class timing to change

Bhubaneswar: Odisha School & Mass Education Minister Samir Ranjan Dash on Saturday informed that the new academic session of schools across the State will begin from May 1 with 100 percent syllabus coverage.

While speaking to the media persons about the decision of the State government regarding the new academic session, Dash said that classes will be held between 9 AM and 9 AM from May 1 to June 5 and they will have to study 100 per cent syllabus. It is to be noted here that the department had reduced 30 per cent of syllabus due to the COVID pandemic.

Students of classes VIII and IX will get promotion by April 20 while the admission and readmission of Class I-IX students will be conducted from April 20 to April 30, he added.

The Minister further said that the students will have only 11 days of summer vacation between June 6 and June 16 this year.

Speaking about the Mid-Day Meal, he said that the students will be given their food as they used to get earlier.

The course or classes which will be given to the students from the beginning of May will be called as the running recovery course or bridge course. Special focus will be given to subjects like Mathematics, Science and English.

“Teachers of the third party and teachers of the concerned schools will take classes because the school teachers will not be able to take the recovery classes as they will be engaged in the regular classes. The tender process for the third party is underway,” the Education Minister said.

He further informed that the State government is mulling over restoring the single-exam format and Practical exams for Classes 9 and 10 like the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) from the next academic year.
