IT department provides much needed relief to Tax payers, find details here

A one-time relaxation for verification of e-filed Income Tax Return (ITR) for the Assessment Year (AY) of 2020-21 has been provided by the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT). The statement was issued by the Income Tax Department.

However, taxpayers must remember that the last date to submit their ITR for AY 2021-22 is December 31, 2021.

The Income Tax India’s tweet read, “CBDT provides one-time relaxation for verification of e-filed ITRs for AY 2020-21 which are pending for verification due to non-submission of ITR-V form or pending e-Verification.”

The decision has been made because a large number of electronically filed ITRs for the AY of 2020-21 is still pending with the IT department regarding the receipt of a valid ITR-V Form at CPC, Bengaluru, or pending e-Verification from the taxpayers concerned, said the CBDT in a statement.

CBDT will also be providing one-time relaxation for submission of ITR-V/e-Verification. This will help resolve the problems faced by the taxpayers associated with the non-verification of ITRs for the AY 2020-21 and to regularize such ITRs.

Taxpayers are required to verify their ITR within the time limit of 120 days from the date of uploading it if they have filled it electronically and without a digital signature.

The verification procedure can be completed through Aadhaar OTP, by logging into e-filing account through net banking, or by sending a duly signed physical copy of the ITR-V via post to the Income Tax Department Centralized Processing Centre in Bengaluru.
