Bhubaneswar: Aging is a natural phenomena. Our hair turns grey once we start ageing. It is considered normal for people to notice greying of hair after 40s. However, these days younger people in their 20s and 30s are witnessing premature greying of hair, which has a negative impact on self-esteem, confidence and appearance.

The reason that your hair greys is because the pigment in your skin called melanin does not get produced in large enough quantities as you get older. This is most commonly due to a diet which is not well-balanced or a lack of nourishment.

Premature greying of hair has become a cause of concern for young people. While greying of hair is caused when your hair follicles cease to produce melanin- the pigment that gives hair its colour, the reasons for the early onset of this remains a major worry for most. However, you can stop premature greying at a young age by using one or more of the following remedies:

Walnuts are rich in copper which prevents the greying of hair. Copper plays a crucial role in the production of melanin, which gives the hair its black pigmentation.

  • Curry leaves

Curry leaves are one of the best cures for premature hair greying. Vitamin B present in curry leaves helps in restoring the function of melanin in the hair follicles. Curry leaves also repair damaged hair roots and supply crucial nutrients to the hair. They also stimulates hair growth and prevents hair greying.

  • Almond Oil

Almond oil works wonders for dandruff problems, fine lines, wrinkles and age spots. It contains Vitamin E which is an antioxidant and stops split ends besides helping the hair retain its elasticity.

  • Gooseberry

Gooseberry or Amla is rich in Vitamin C which is a natural antioxidant and has anti-aging properties which reduces discolouring and pigmentation of hair. For best results, it is recommended to use dried gooseberry powder mixed with coconut oil.

  • Black Tea

Black tea gives a naturally darker hue to the hair. It also helps the hair regain its strength and elasticity which prevents it from breaking or becoming brittle.

  • Henna
