The legendary singer of India Lata Mangeshkar, also known as Lata dii, passed away two years back on today’s date.

The legendary singer of India Lata Mangeshkar, also known as Lata dii, passed away two years back on today’s date. The queen of Melody, Lata dii was one of the major contributors to the growth of the Indian music. She has received numerous accolades and awards for her contributions to music industry.

Born on 28 September 1929, Lata dii started her training to become a singer at the age of five. The legendary singer’s singing career continued for over seven decades.

Lata Mangeshkar has recorded in more than thirty Indian languages and dialects, including Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Bengali, and others. Some of Lata dii’s famous songs are ‘Lag Jaa Gale’, ‘Mohe Panghat Pe’, ‘Hothon Mein Aisi Baat’, ‘Chalte Chalte’, ‘Satyam Shivam Sundaram’, ‘Paani Paani Re’, ‘Ajib Dastan Hai Yeh’, ‘Pyar Kiya Toh Darna Kya’, and ‘Neela Aasman So Gaya’, among others.

She was hailed as the ‘Queen of Melody’, ‘Voice of the Millennium’, and ‘Nightingale of India’. Lata Mangeshkar was awarded with India’s most prestigious award Bharat Ratna in 2001. With this she became the second singer to receive India’s highest civilian honour. She also appeared in the Guinness World Records as the most recorded artist in history. She was later replaced by her Asha Bhosle.

On 17 January 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted Lataji’s last recording, “Shree Ramarpan”, a shloka based on the Rama Raksha Stotra recorded by her in 2021.

Lata Mangeshkar died from multiple organ dysfunction syndrome on 6 February 2022, at the age of 92. She passed away while undergoing treatment at the Breach Candy Hospital.
