South Korean automaker Hyundai and Kia will soon offer connected car-home services and for that reason have entered a partnership with Samsung. Through this partnership the connected car services of Hyundai and Kia will be connected with Samsung’s SmartThings platform. Speaking in simple terms, users can check some features of their car through home devices and vice-versa.

The existing connected car services of Hyundai and Kia will be linked with Samsung’s SmartThings Internet of Things (IoT) platform. The partnership between the three South Korean giants will bring integration of technology at a user’s home as well in their car. The users can remotely monitor and control home appliances like air conditioners, air purifiers, lights, robot vacuums while they are driving their vehicle. The users have to use voice commands, preset modes as well s touch screens in order to control home appliances.

In a similar way, the users while sitting at the comfort of their home can check car features like charging, air conditioning and many more. They can use smartphone apps, televisions, AI speakers and other smart products in order to do so. The aim of this technology integration is to allow EV owners to optimize their charging schedule based on energy usage pattern at their home. The users can put the setting on a “home mode” while they drive back to their home. This will pre-activate home appliances. Similarly, when they are driving away from their home, they can use the “away mode” to conserve energy.

Hyundai and Kia will offer the expanded car-connected features and services to their customers in the global markets too. The new features will be added through OTA (over-the-air) and USB software updates. For those who are unknown, the automakers already entered with other companies to offer car-home functionality like air conditioning and lightning controls. The latest collaboration with Samsung will increase the smoothness of connectivity between homes and vehicles.
