39 crew missing as Chinese fishing boat capsizes in Indian Ocean
The missing crew members included 17 people from China, 17 from Indonesia and five from the Philippines
Beijing: A Chinese fishing boat operating in the Indian Ocean capsized on Tuesday and all 39 crew members went missing.
Broadcaster China Central Television (CCTV) said the incident took place around 3 am on Tuesday. The crew members included 17 people from China, 17 from Indonesia and five from the Philippines.
China’s maritime search and rescue centre had informed relevant countries of the accident and the foreign ministry had told its missions in Australia, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Indonesia, the Philippines and other countries to coordinate the search and rescue operations.
Later, search and rescue teams from Australia and several other countries have arrived on the scene and China has deployed two vessels to assist in the operation.
