Designated quarantine facilities for international Covid positive travelers in Delhi

New Delhi: The international passengers testing positive for COVID upon arrival at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport to isolate at institutional facilities, announced the Delhi government.

Reportedly, the designated institutional facilities will be paid and free that have been set up in various districts of Delhi.

Several teams have been deployed at the airport to transfer the patients accordingly.

Earlier, international passengers who would test positive for Covid-19 upon arrival at the IGI airport would be taken to hospitals and those testing negative would be advised to isolate at home.

“In compliance to the guidelines for international arrivals dated 30th November, 2021, issued by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, based on the risk assessment, it is informed that the institutional isolation of Covid positive passengers/contacts arriving at IGI Airport, New Delhi from foreign countries will, henceforth, be done at the designated paid and free facilities (hotels/Covid Care Centre), set up by various districts,” the Directorate of Health Services said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Delhi government issued a yellow alert and shut down schools with immediate effect yesterday evening following a high-level meeting on Covid-19 situation in the national capital.

Delhi government has set up a 100-bed paid isolation facility at IBIS Hotel in Aerocity, and free centres at a 50-bed facility at CWG Akshardham, which will be scaled up to 500 beds, 100 beds at Sardar Patel Covid Care Centre and 100 beds at Terapanth Bhawan, added reports.

It is to be noted that seven days of home quarantine is mandatory for those testing negative upon arrival from the at-risk countries. After seven days, they must take another RT-PCR test. If they test negative, they can come out of quarantine but are asked to monitor their health for the next seven days.
