Two Accused Arrested In Ganjam Minor Girl Gang-Rape Case

Ganjam: Two accused persons have been arrested for allegedly gang-raping a minor girl in Golanthara police limits of Ganjam district of Odisha recently.

Both the arrested persons are said to be from Sorala village of the district, said Berhampur SP Pinak Mishra while speaking about the development of the case today.

The SP said that the arrested youth have been booked under Section 6 of the POCSO Act and Section 376-DB of the IPC. They have been forwarded to the court, he added.

It is to be noted here that the incident took place on January 28, 2021. The minor girl was forcibly taken by the two accused to an abandoned house of Odisha Disaster Recovery Project (ODRP).

The minor girl tried to defend herself when both the accused attempted to assault her physically. Irate over the girl’s resistance, they attacked her head, face and ears with a brick leaving her critically injured.

The locals of Sorala village, after knowing about the incident, caught the accused, beat them up, and handed them over to the police.

The Berhampur police rescued the minor and immediately rushed her to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur for treatment. Later, she was shifted to Cuttack-based SCB Medical College and Hospital as her health condition deteriorated.

The police also seized the blood-stained bricks and broken teeth of the girl from the spot.

The Berhampur SP had visited the spot and met the minor’s family members along with the villagers to get some lead in the gang-rape case.

Further investigation into the matter is underway.
