Undertrial prisoner tries self-castration to commit suicide in Odisha

Bhawanipatna: In a bizarre kind of incident, an Undertrial Prisoner (UTP) chopped off his private parts to commit suicide in Dharmagarh Sub-Jail in Kalahandi district.

The UTP identified as Digambar Khamari had been arrested in a dowry case a few months back.

As per the report, Khamari used a shaving razor which had been supplied to him by the jail authorities this morning to cut off his genitals. He suffered critical injury in the attempt and bled profusely before being discovered in a pool of blood by the jail guards.

The victim has been admitted to Dharmagarh Sub Divisional Hospital for treatment and his condition is stated to be critical.

The reason behind the suicide attempt of the UTP is being ascertained.
