Bhubaneswar:  The Odisha state BJP has accused Chief Minister and BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik of having used dubious methods to add ‘fake’ followers on his Twitter handle.

Addressing a press conference here today, State General-Secretary of BJP, Bhrugu Baxipatra said the number of Naveen Patnaik’s twitter followers grew unusually fast over a period of two months from June 2017.

No less then 9000 followers are being added to his followers’ list every day whereas the number of his daily tweets had been less than three during the same period,  Buxipatra pointed out saying this is a clear sign that a large proportion of the new followers are actually ‘fake’. Drawing such a large number of followers is possible only by using an internet bot, he claimed. An internet bot is an application that can run automated tasks over the internet.

The BJP leader said Twitter is now used as a powerful political tool and Patnaik is trying to influence the young mass born in the year 2000, who are potential voters of the 2019 general elections.

Taking a dig at the CM, Buxipatra mentioned that out of the last 6,165 followers in Naveen’s twitter handle, 3888 twitter followers are fake accounts who have never tweeted and have zero followers. He said only 86 of the 6165 followers appeared to be genuine.

Calling upon the youth of Odisha to see through the game, he said that all the youngsters should raise their voice against the dubious methods used to influence the people in social media.
