Angul: Locals were left in a state of panic after the dead body of a woman was found from a temple well in Santarabandha village under Chhendipada Police Station area in the district on Monday.
The deceased has been identified as Padmini Pradhan (35), wife of Khirod Pradhan of the same village.
Padmini, a resident of Kendupasi village was observing an ‘adhia’ (prostration for fulfillment of wish) near Goddess Banadurga in the village for past three days and suddenly went missing from the temple premises last afternoon. While her husband lodged a missing case with police the same day, cops failed to trace her despite all efforts. However, some villagers spotted Padmini’s body floating in a well located on the temple premises this morning.
Chhendipada Police and local fire officials fished out the body from the well and rushed for autopsy reaching the village later in the day.
An investigation by police is underway to find out how and under what circumstances the woman fell into the well and died.
