Cuttack: Acting on the disproportionate assets (DA) charges leveled against him, Cuttack Sadar police on Thursday arrested Bayalis Mouza Jharakata post master. The arrested post master identified as Narayan Das was absconding since November 2017 after some local depositors complained against him alleging that he had embezzled more than Rs 1 crore.
As per allegation, many depositors had deposited their money in the post office after the chit fund scam surfaced in the state. Their passbooks were updated and receipts were also given to them. However, the amount was not reflected in the records of the post office.
Later, a complaint was lodged against Das at the General Post Office (GPO), Buxi Bazar in Cuttack and a case at Cuttack Sadar police on November 9, following which Narayan Das had absconded. Locals had locked the post office many times demanding arrest and action against Das.
Cops are interrogating the accused to find out the involvement of others in the DA case.
