Berhampur: Tightening the noose around the necks of drug retailers allegedly involved in selling expired medicines, Ganjam district and drugs control administration officials sealed at least three shops during a raid in the premises of MKCG Hospital last night.

A team lead by an Additional Tehsildar of Berhampur, Drug Control Officer and local police examined the medicines kept in these shops and also tallied those with the stock chart. After noticing widespread irregularities during the inspection, the shops were sealed.

However, the owners of the medicine shops met Berhampur Sub Collector today over the issue and expressed their resentment. Dubbing the action of the district administration to be arbitrary, the shop owners have claimed of adhering to all rules and regulations.

Similarly, relatives of the patient currently admitted in the hospital have also feared that the closure of the shops would now give them a tough time to find necessary medicines.
