Japan: Train services suspended between Tokyo, Yokohama, know why

Tokyo: Train services on Japan’s JR Yokosuka line between Tokyo and Yokohama stations were suspended on Thursday due to concrete on tracks in a tunnel.

Multiple pieces of concrete have fallen onto the tracks in the tunnel between Tokyo and Shinagawa stations, leading to suspension of train operations since morning, said East Japan Railway Company, or JR East, Xinhua news agency reported.

The train services suspended in Japan, closed the section extending from Tokyo to Yokohama stations due to restoration work.

JR East’s Narita Express trains, which connect Narita Airport in Chiba Prefecture and the greater Tokyo area, have consequently been suspended from the first departure on all routes, but are expected to resume in the afternoon.

Recently on January 28, an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.8 on the Richter scale struck Japan’s Tokyo, Kanagawa Prefecture and other surrounding areas during the early hours on Sunday morning, the country’s weather agency said.

The quake occurred at 8:59 a.m. local time with the epicentre in Tokyo Bay at a depth of 80 km, measuring 4 on the country’s seismic scale of 7 in central Tokyo and the eastern part of Kanagawa, the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) was quoted by Xinhua news agency as saying.

No tsunami warnings were issued after the earthquake in Japan, JMA added.

According to the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department, there have been no reports of damage so far, and they are confirming the details of the situation.
