7.6 magnitude earthquake hits Japan, Death toll rises to 6

At least six people were killed in Japan after a series of strong earthquakes hit the country on Monday causing a tsunami warning.

Japan: At least six people were killed in Japan after a series of strong earthquakes hit the country on Monday. Most of the deaths were reported from Ishikawa prefecture in central Japan.

On Monday, a series of strong earthquakes, measuring up to a preliminary 7.6 magnitude, hit the Noto Peninsula in Ishikawa prefecture.

Following the powerful earthquake, the Japan Meteorological Agency issued tsunami warning and waves as high as 4 feet were seen in the coastal areas. The Japan Meteorological Agency has officially named it the 2024 Noto Peninsula Earthquake. The Tsunami warning was sent to as far as Russia.

As per reports, Japan has been hit by 155 quakes since Monday.

In the massive earthquake, several buildings crumbled, and fires broke out in the central Japanese city of Wajima. Around 95 thousand people in the coastal areas were ordered to evacuate.

Meanwhile, the Indian Embassy in Japan has set up an emergency room for anyone to contact in connection with the earthquake and tsunami warnings on January 1. It has issued emergency contact numbers for Indian citizens after a strong earthquake and tsunami warnings in Japan.
