13 workers killed, over 35 injured after explosion in Indonesia Nickel plant

In a recent incident, at least 13 workers lost their lives while over 35 people were reported injured after an explosion in Indonesia.

Indonesia: In a recent incident, at least 13 workers lost their lives while over 35 people were reported injured after an explosion in Indonesia. The explosion took place in a nickel smelter furnace. It was owned by Indonesia Tsingshan Stainless Steel (ITSS), reliable reports confirmed.

Reportedly, the blast took place when a worker repaired the furnace and set the plates back during the early morning hours of Sunday. The deceased in the Indonesia explosion include eight Indonesian workers and five workers from China. 

Reports from reliable sources state that multiple explosions were triggered by the initial blast. This was reportedly due to the presence of numerous oxygen cylinders. 

Reports said that the island of Sulawesi is a hub for the mineral-rich country’s production of nickel, a base metal used for electric vehicle batteries and stainless steel.”The current number of victims is 51 people. 12 people died in the incident. There are 39 people with minor and serious injuries who are currently receiving medical treatment,” media report said.
