Woman, son die of snakebite in Odisha’s Kandhamal

Phulbani: A day after six persons died of snakebite at different places in Odisha, a woman and her six-year-old son lost their lives after being bitten by a venomous snake in Kandhamal district on Tuesday.

According to reports, the mother-son duo was sleeping in their house at Dapargaon village under K Nuagaon police limits in the district. A poisonous snake is said to have slithered into the room where they were sleeping and bit them.

Hearing the scream of the boy, other family member rushed the mother-son duo to K Nuagaon Community Health Centre (CHC). The son died at the CHC while undergoing treatment.

Later, the mother was shifted to the District Headquarter Hospital here in a critical condition. She also died while undergoing treatment.

A pal of gloom has descended in the village following the death of the mother-son duo.

A case of unnatural death has been registered at K Nuagaon Police Station in this connection, police said.
