Tigress ‘Sundari’ targets cattle in Angul village after humans

Angul: Amid uncertainty lingering over tigress Sundari’s involvement in attack on humans and livestock in areas adjoining Satkosia Wildlife Sanctuary, it allegedly killed more domestic animals in Bipradihi village under Maimura panchayat in Angul district last night.

As per the allegations by the locals, the tigress hunted at least five cows by entering into a local’s cattle shed late in the night. However, the forest officials are yet to confirm whether the deaths are caused by tigress attack or not.

Earlier, the tigress had attacked at least one cow and two calves in the cattle shed of one Prakash Pradhan in the same village. coherence

However, Sudarshan Panda, Regional Chief Conservator of Forests (RCCF), Angul has dubbed the tigress attack allegation as baseless.

“The tigress is located at a reasonably safe distance from the human habitat. It has been spotted at a distance of 15 km from Hatibari village in Satkosia forest. Our monitoring teams and field staff are working coherently with police to keep a track of the movement of Sundari. Media reports on the killing of cows by the tigress in Bipradihi are not confirmed and we have got information on the injury of one cow only,” said Panda.

However, he informed that a final call on the shifting of the tiger from Satkosia will be taken after the visit and recommendations of an expert team of Wildlife Institute of India which is scheduled to visit the state soon.
