Thousands take holy dip at Chandrabhaga on Magha Saptami today

Puri: Thousands of devotees today thronged the Chandrabhaga sea beach near Konark Sun temple today and took holy dip to mark the Magha Satpatami.

The sea beach was flooded with pilgrims which also included elderly people in large number along with kids starting from early morning. Bath and prayer went on hand in hand as people took a holy dip braving winter cold which is yet to recede completely.

As per the religious belief taking a holy dip at Chadrabhaga on this auspicious day, which falls every year on the 7th day of the waxing phase of moon in Odia calendar month of ‘Magha’, cures all diseases and cleanses the devotee of all sins. Both Sun God and Lord Shiva are worshipped during the ‘Magha Mela’ which is held at Konark on this day also.

Puri district administration had made all security arrangements for the occasion and deployed 30 platoons of police forces under 4 ASP and 14 DSP for the smooth conduct of the festival today.
