Rourkela ITI student dies after falling from train, collegemates stage protest

Rourkela: Tension ran high at the Government Industrial Training Institute in Rourkela today after students staged a demonstration on its premise demanding compensation to the family of a collegemate who died yesterday after falling off a moving train.

The deceased identified as Bhaskar Sahu, had been engaged in electrical restoration work in the State capital Bhubaneswar and was returning home when the mishap took place.

The agitating student of the ITI institution locked up the main gate of the college and demanded an ex-gratia amount of Rs 25 lakh for the next of kin of the deceased.

Later, college authorities gave Rs 5 lakh as the first phase compensation to Sahu’s family.

Notably, a group of 37 students of Rourkela Government ITI had been sent to Bhubaneswar to restore power supply in the aftermath of cyclone Fani.
