Restoration of city parks almost completed:BDA

Bhubaneswar: All major parks managed by the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) will start normal function in the evening from tomorrow, BDA officials said today. Almost all parks in the state capital have witnessed large scale damage during severe cyclone Fani.

BDA officials said that Biju Patnaik Park, popularly known as Forest Park started functioning in the evening from May 19, Indira Gandhi Park and Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra Parks were opened on May 20. “Buddha Jayanti Park and Netaji Subhash Parks were opened on May 21 and by tomorrow all major BDA parks will have both morning and evening hours for visitors,” said an official.

BDA manages ten major city parks having an area between 5 acres and 20 acres and more than 50 smaller parks inside colonies across the city.

Chief Horticulturist of BDA Ashokananda Dhar said that though a number of visitors have started morning walk on their own, the walking paths and the jogging tracks were cleared by May 14.

“Installation and repairing of electrical equipment and machines took some extra time. Besides restoration work in more than 25 smaller parks has been completed and the restoration in the remaining small parks will be completed in a day or two,” said Dhar.

Cleaning of major parks was conducted with the deployment of 10 excavators and more than 200 staffs by BDA. The green debris was lifted with the help of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation.
