Nabarangpur: A chemistry teacher from Nabarangpur district of Odisha was arrested on Friday on the charge of misbehaving girl students of his school as well as for making obscene gesture to them. Earlier, the female students of Ekalavya Adarsh Vidyalaya in this district had alleged misbehaviour against the Chemistry teacher.
The accused teacher of the school has been identified as Amar Kumar Nath.
Reportedly, the students submitted a written complaint to the school principal on May 8 mentioning that Nath has been making obscene gestures and abusive remarks to the girls.
They also alleged that the teacher was asking the students to go to the laboratory room under various pretexts.
The matter came to light after the District Administration was made aware of these allegations against Nath. Thereafter, a Task Force team has been formed and an investigation has been initiated, informed the project director of the Integrated Tribal Development Agency.
The team has discussed the matter with officials from the Child Protection Committee, the District Social Welfare Officer, the District Welfare Officer, and the students as well as staff of the school. “After a proper investigation, we will take strict legal action,” he added.
Meanwhile, the tribal organizations have demanded the arrest of the accused teacher within 24 hours.
