Cyclone Fani: Fire Personnel Play Crucial Role in Restoration

Bhubaneswar: Fire personnel have rekindled the hopes of the residents of the state capital which was battered in the cyclone Fani. As many as 476 fire personnel have been deployed in Bhubaneswar for various restoration works.

The role of fire personnel includes cutting of uprooted trees, supply of drinking water and lightening areas which are yet to get power supply. Besides they are also helping the CESU in electricity restoration.

Fire officials said that they have engaged 10 mobile tankers to distribute drinking water in the state capital while 30 fire personnel have also been engaged for lightening Barmunda bus terminal, Kalpana Square and Fire Station Square.

“We have also deployed our men in other places including Puri and Cuttack which witnessed large scale devastation during the cyclone. Our men have been working relentlessly in restoration process,” said Chief Fire Officer, Sukanta Sethi.

Odisha Fire Service had also shown exemplary courage in rescue and relief operation in flood hit Kerala last year. A special team comprising 225 fire personnel, 15 supervisors and other officers had left for Kerala on with powerboats, underwater equipment, solar searchlights, life buoy, tower lights and other modern equipment to participate in rescue and relief work in Kerala.
