Cuttack: Fire Services DG BK Sharma assured a high-level inquiry into the massive fire which broke out at City Styles show room and spread to more than 11 shops nearby including Geeta Fashions in Badambadi on Sunday.

“A high-level inquiry will be conducted into the incident. As many as ten teams comprising 100 fire fighters have been pressed into service to bring the situation under control. Besides, fire officers from Bhubaneswar are on the spot,” informed BK Sharma.

“The two showrooms where the fire broke out today were not included during the recent fire inspection conducted at different business establishments in the city last month,” added Sharma.

Chief Fire Officer Sukanta Sethi said, “The shopping malls lacked fire safety measures. They had not implemented any fire safety norms as per the guidelines. Besides, there was no emergency exit.”

“The fire got intensified as there was huge quantity of clothes in the showrooms,” he added.

Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) teams are also engaged in the service. District Collector, Cuttack DCP and Tehsildar are also on the spot.

Meanwhile efforts are on to rescue one of the staff of City Styles who is left stranded on the roof of the shopping mall. Some more employees are also feared to be trapped inside the shopping malls.

Though fire on the first floor of the shopping mall was doused after one hour, firefighters are toiling hard to control the inferno on the second and third floor of the City Styles.

Properties worth crores have been reduced to ashes due to the fire.
