Crocodile enters hippopotamus enclosure in Nandankanan Zoo

Bhubaneswar: A crocodile has reportedly entered the hippopotamus enclosure number 63 in Nandankanan Zoological Park situated on the outskirt of Odisha’s Capital city, Bhubaneswar.

Reportedly, there are about 12 hippopotamuses in the reservoirs at enclosures 63 and 64. A crocodile was spotted sleeping on the wall between the two enclosures this morning.

On getting the information, Nandankanan authorities immediately deployed staff and initiated efforts to rescue the crocodile from the reservoir.

The staff tried their best to rescue the crocodile safely by capturing it inside a net and keeping it away from the hippopotamuses.

It is pertinent to mention that earlier on Saturday a lioness lost her life due to snakebite following which the Animal Welfare Trust Ekamra (AWTE) filed an FIR against the authorities of Nandankanan Zoo.
