Bhubaneswar: Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik wished the Men’s Odisha Hockey Under 21 team on Tuesday for bagging the gold medal at Khelo India Youth Games. The team is part of the Odisha contingency taking part in the Games at Maharasthra.
CM conveyed his wishes through twitter. He said, “Congratulate our boys of #Odisha #hockey under 21 team for the sterling gold medal winning performance at #KheloIndiaYouthGames. With our impetus on sports & hockey, the future of Odisha hockey indeed holds promise.”
In the pulsating finale of Khelo India Youth Games, Odisha beat Haryana by 4-2. Odisha was initially leading with 2-0 with goals scored by Dipsan Tirkey (11th minute) and Ashis Topno (23rd). Not the one to back out, Haryana’s skipper Mandeep Mor (29th, 57th) scored 2 more goals and bringing the exciting game to a tie. The hockey match was decided by a shootout with Odisha converting 4 to goals while Haryana could only do 2.
