BJD Leader Pradeep Maharathy Arrested For Attacking EC Officials

Bhubaneswar: BJD’s Pipili Assembly Constituency candidate Pradeep Maharathy was arrested hours after members of the election flying squad and Static Surveillance Team were attacked while conducting a raid at his farmhouse at Hunkeipur village in Pipili late Sunday night.

DGP Dr. RP Sharma confirmed that the former minister was arrested following a complaint in this regard.

After receiving a tip-off that freebies like cash and alcohol being allegedly distributed at the farmhouse, a 15-member flying squad team led by an executive magistrate conducted the raid at Maharathy’s residence.

However, the officials were brutally thrashed by the supporters of Maharathy at his Hunkeipur farmhouse. Executive magistrate Rabi Narayan Patra and police officers sustained injuries in the incident. The injured persons have been admitted to Capital Hospital for treatment.

Maharathy was arrested after the matter created a huge uproar. Puri SP Uma Shankar Dash informed that a case has been lodged against him under IPC sections 307, 341, 353, 332, 147, 148, 149, 171 (b), 186 and 123.
