Jajpur: At least four persons were killed and five others sustained grievous injuries after a truck struck a Tata Magic vehicle head-on near Balisahi on NH-53 under Dharmasala Tehsil in the district on Saturday.

Three of the deceased in the mishap have been identified and they are, Ramachandra Swain of Kamagarh, Basant Sahoo of Antia and Prafulla Behera of Satamana villages in Jajpur district.

The accident took place this morning at around 7.30 AM when the Tata Magic (Registration No. OD 05 M 7752) was on its way to Kalinga Nagar Tata Steel plant with at least 9 passengers on board. The vehicle was struck from the front by a speeding truck coming from the opposite direction on NH at Baunshadola Square, presumably due to the reckless driving of the driver. While four passengers traveling in the Tata Magic died on the spot, five others sustained critical injuries in the collision.

The injured were rushed to Dharmasala Community Health Centre (CHC) immediately by some locals and later shifted to SCB Medical in Cuttack in critical condition.

Jenapur Police have reached the spot and seized the mangled Tata Magic. They have also sent the dead bodies for postmortem to Badachana CHC.
