WPL 2024: Sourav Ganguly all set to attend first-ever auction with Delhi Capitals

Delhi Capitals Director of Cricket, Sourav Ganguly, is set to participate in his inaugural Women’s Premier League (WPL) auction. Despite his substantial involvement in the women’s squad appointments last year, Ganguly missed the auction. The team, having finished as runners-up in the WPL’s first season, holds a purse of Rs 2.25 crore with three slots to fill. Notably, they released Jasia Akhtar, Aparna Mondal, and Tara Norris, the USA fast bowler who achieved the tournament’s first five-wicket haul.
Expressing his anticipation for the auction, Sourav Ganguly stated in a video posted by Delhi Capitals, “Although it’s a small auction, we have very few gaps to fill, it’s (my) first time.” He applauded the team’s performance in the previous season, emphasizing their exceptional gameplay and unfortunate loss in the final. Ganguly expressed optimism for the upcoming season, saying, “Hopefully, they will play well.”
Delhi Capitals retains top-tier international talents in their squad, featuring captain Meg Lanning, Australian cricket great, along with Indian talents like Jemimah Rodrigues, Shafali Verma, Shikha Pandey, and international players Jess Jonassen and Marizanne Kapp.
Reflecting on the team composition, Ganguly acknowledged that in T20 and sports, there are no guarantees, but the squad retains 95 percent of its previous members. He highlighted having one or two slots to fill and expressed hope for a strong start in the upcoming season.
