Vijay had sustained a non-displaced fracture of his left big toe while batting against Jasprit Bumrah in the nets.
On Sunday, Vijay was not featured in the playing XI against England at Birmingham, in which India suffered their first defeat of the tournament.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant came in for Vijay in the game against England that India lost by 31 runs.
In this World Cup, Vijay had scored 15 off 15 balls against Pakistan and 29 off 41 balls against Afghanistan. Against West Indies, he had scored 14 on 19 balls.
Mayank made his Test debut last December against Australia, but is yet to make his bow in the 50-over format.
Currently, India stand at the second spot in the points table of the ICC World Cup 2019. The Men-in-Blue will play their next game against Bangladesh on July 2.
