Simona Halep beats Serena Williams to clinch Wimbledon title
London: Simona Halep on Saturday won the women’s singles title in the Wimbledon Tennis. She defeated 11th seed Serena Williams in straight sets 6-2, 6-2 at the Centre Court in the summit clash.
“It was the best match. Serena always inspired us. I have worked a lot for this moment,” Simona Halep said after clinching her maiden Wimbledon title and second major Grand Slam.
The 27-year-old Romanian star had also won French Open 2018, beating American Sloane Stephens 3-6 6-4 6-1.
For 37-year-old Williams, it was a third major final defeat in the last 12 months.
In the Men’s Singles title clash, eight-time champion Roger Federer will take on world number one Novak Djokovic tomorrow.
