Roger Federer beats Rafael Nadal to reach Wimbledon final

Federer will compete with defending champion Novak Djokovic for the coveted trophy

Wimbledon, England: Eight-time winner Roger Federer beat old rival Rafael Nadal to reach his 12th Wimbledon final on Friday.

The 37-year old legend beat the Spaniard by 7-6 (3), 1-6, 6-3, 6-4. This was the pair’s 40th career meeting which led to Federer’s 31st Grand Slam final.

Federer closed in on a ninth championship at the All England Club and 21st Grand Slam trophy in all. To get to those numbers in Sunday’s final, Federer must get past Novak Djokovic, who is the defending champion and seeded No. 1.

Rafael Nadal beat Federer to win the magnificent 2008 Wimbledon final, prevailing 9-7 in the fifth set. The match went on for four hours and 48 minutes, finishing in something much closer to darkness than daylight.

Federer won the 2019 rematch on Friday, 7-6 (3), 1-6, 6-3, 6-4, finishing it off on his fifth match point by playing as boldly as he had from the start when he slapped an ace on the opening point.
