Ravindra Jadeja shatters 57-year-old records of Gary Sobers, becomes first to average over 300 in Test series

Ravindra Jadeja broke a 57-year-old record held by Gary Sobers and emerged as the first player in Test cricket to score runs 516 runs in the 2025 Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy (ATT). Team India and England had a draw with a 2-2 in the series.

He scored an average of 86 with one century and five half-centuries in the 10 innings. This makes Ravindra Jadeja the second-highest scorer in a test series in England while batting at number six.

He scored two half-centuries in the 1st innings but easily gathered 315 runs in the subsequent innings of the match. This made him the highest scorer with a batting average of 86 with one century and five half-centuries in 10 innings.

The record was earlier held by Gary Sobers of West Indies with 260 runs in 1967.

The England Men’s and India Men’s Test teams dedicated the Anderson Tendulkar Trophy (ATT) to honour James Anderson and Sachin Tendulkar for their remarkable achievements in Test cricket.

The Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, is a joint initiative between the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). It will now represent all future Test series between England and India. Previously, the series in England was played for the Pataudi Trophy, and the series in India for the Anthony De Mello Trophy.

James Anderson said, “It’s a proud moment for me and my family to have this iconic series named after Sachin and me. The rivalry between our two nations has always been something special, full of history, intensity, and unforgettable moments,” as quoted from a release by BCCI.

“To be recognised in this way is a real honour. I’m looking forward to seeing the next chapter unfold in England this summer. It promises to be compelling, competitive cricket – exactly what you’d expect from two great sides. This is elite sport at its finest,” he added.

Sachin Tendulkar said, “For me, Test cricket embodies life – you give your best, and if things go wrong, it gives you another day to regroup, think, unlearn, and bounce back. It is the highest form of the game that teaches you endurance, discipline, and adaptability, against all odds. I owe my foundation to Test cricket, as it has seen me grow from disappointments to triumphs, from aspirations to fulfilment.”
