IPL Auction 2024: Punjab Kings accidentally purchased ‘wrong player’!

During the auction for IPL 2024, Punjab Kings found themselves in a huge blunder after accidentally purchasing wrong player.

During the auction for Indian Premiere League (IPL) 2024, Punjab Kings found themselves in a huge blunder after accidentally purchasing wrong player. The team mistakenly bought uncapped Indian player Shashank Singh at a base price of Rs 20 lakh.

The confusion arose after the auctioneer, Mallika Sagar, announced and called out the name of Shashank Singh for the next bid. Despite mix-up, Preity Zinta, the co-owner of the Punjab Kings raised the paddle after a brief discussion with her team members. However, as the auction proceeded, the team realised that they chose the wrong player. Reportedly, they mistook Shashank Singh for another player.

In order to rectify their mistake, PBKS owners Ness Wadia and Preity Zinta appealed to re-enter Shashank into the auction. However, this would be against the IPL rules.

Meanwhile, Australia’s Mitchell Starc surpassed Pat Cummins to become the most expensive player in the history of Indian Premiere League (IPL). The player has been bought by Kolkata Knight Riders at Rs 24.75 lakh in the ongoing IPL 2024 auction at Dubai.

From India, Harshal Patel has become the most expensive Indian purchase in the auction after being sold to Punjab Kings at Rs 11.75 crores.
