Penguin Sir Nils promoted to Major General Rank in Norway

It is to be noted that the king penguin is the mascot of the King of Norway’s Guard since 1972.

New Delhi: In a rare happening a penguin has been promoted to the rank of Major General in Norway. Accordingly, the bird has become world’s highest ranking penguin. The penguin resides in the Edinburgh zoo of Scotland.

Edinburgh Zoo wrote in a X post (formerly Twitter), “The highest-ranking penguin in the world, Sir Nils Olav III, has been promoted to Major General by the Norwegian King’s Guard. Sir Nils now holds the third highest rank in the Norwegian Army!” This caption was posted along with a couple of photographs. In one of the photos we can see that uniformed officials are doing salute to the bird.

The penguin was awarded the new rank of honour at a special ceremony that took place at the wildlife conservation charity’s Penguins Rock.

It is to be noted that the king penguin is the mascot of the King of Norway’s Guard since 1972.

The achievement to be promoted to such rank by the feathered friend is undoubtedly a rare feat.
