Small Cylinders Will Be Available In Ration Shops Across India, See Details

Bhubaneswar: The government of India is planning to sell small cylinders through ration shops all over the country.

It is noteworthy that, there are as many as 5.32 lakh ration shops in the country. Through this move, the center is aiming to take its services closer to the poor and needy consumers.

This move is also aimed to enhance the financial viability of fair price shops (FPS), the government is also planning to allow them to offer financial services in consultation with states.

Department of Financial Services assured that MUDRA loans to FPS dealers would be extended by banks for capital augmentation.

According to reports, the Centre is planning to raise LPG prices in the first week of November since the under-recovery on fuel has increased to over Rs 100 per cylinder.

The food and consumer affairs ministry said in a statement, “Proactive measures to be taken to enhance financial viability of FPS… Plan of retail selling of small LPG cylinders through fair price shops (FPS) on the anvil.”

In Noida, the refill of a small cylinder of 5-kg capacity costs around Rs 375 while a new one costs around Rs 1,400 which includes regulator also, a retailer said.
