Rats ate 19 kg of ganja and bhang, cops tell court in Jharkhand

Ranchi: In a shocking incident, Dhanbad police from Jharkhand submitted in court that rats ate 19 kg of ganja and bhang that were kept in a warehouse after it was confiscated from a man.

According to reports, Shambhu Agarwal and his son were arrested for the possession of 10 kg of marijuana and 9 kg of bhang on December 14, 2018.

Reportedly, during the course of their trial, the court of Principal and Session Judge Ram Sharma asked the investigation officer Jaiprakash Prasad to exhibit the confiscated material. However, the cops could not produce the material and said that the seized material was consumed by rats.

The investigation officer Jaiprakash Prasad filed a report on April 6 saying the confiscated material was destroyed by rats. Following this, a detailed probe into the matter has been ordered by the Superintendent of Dhanbad Police.

This is not the first time when such an incident occurred. Earlier in July 2023, rates ate 22 kg of marijuana kept in police storehouse. As no proofs were found, the two accused were acquitted. The two accused, identified as Rajagopal and Nageshwara Rao, were arrested in 2020 by the Marina Police in Chennai.
