Jallikattu Begins At Madurai’s Avaniyapuram Amid COVID Restrictions

Chennai: Traditional bull-taming sport ‘Jallikattu’ on Thursday began at Avaniyapuram in Madurai with certain restrictions amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Over 200 bulls are participating in the competition.People in the crowd were seen wearing face masks during an event in Avaniyapuramthe in view of COVID-19.

The state government has limited the number of audience at 50 per cent of the number of participants at the event in Madurai’s Avaniyapuram.

As per the directive, the number of players cannot be more than 150 at an event and COVID-19 negative certificates have been made mandatory for players.

The Tamil Nadu government in December last year had granted permission to hold Jallikattu with certain restrictions.

Congress Leader Rahul Gandhi and DMK President MK Stalin’s son and actor Udhayanidhi were present at Jallikattu event, in Avaniyapuram, Madurai.
