DSP and 19 others arrested in drug bust at Sangrur jail in Punjab, several incriminating material seized said reports
Punjab: As many as 19 people and a DSP were arrested in a drug bust at Sangrur jail in Punjab, said reports on Thursday. SSP Sangrur Sartaj Singh Chahal informed ANI in this regard.
The SSP said, “Punjab Government has started a campaign against drugs. Under this, Sangrur Police has achieved a huge success. During jail search last month, 9 mobile phones, 4 smartwatches, 50 grams of opium and other contraband were recovered. There was a class 4 employee posted in Sangrur jail itself.”
Chahal further informed, “He was involved in smuggling. That network was exposed. We arrested the woman who was supplying mobile phones. We also came to know of the people the accused were in touch with through the mobile phones. We came to know that there was one Gurvinder alias Baba in the jail who was in touch with one Manpreet Singh who was residing in Amritsar. When we conducted a raid, we recovered four kgs of heroin, one Glock pistol, two live bullets and Rs 5.50 Lakhs in drug money.”
Further it is worth mentioning that, when Sangrur Police conducted further investigation, it was found that one of three inmates Gurchet (r/o Tarn Taran) and DSP security jail Gurpreet Singh colluded. Gurpreet Singh collected around Rs 40,000 cash and Rs 25,000-26,000 through UPI and smuggled two mobile phones and Rs 25 gram heroin to them.
The Punjab police SSP further added, “We have arrested the DSP (and as many as) 19 people have been named and arrested.” Further investigation is underway in this regard.
