Chennai: A man who allegedly killed his mother-in-law 28 years ago was arrested by a special team of Chennai police. The accused has been identified Harihara Patta Joshi, a native of Odisha.

According to police reports, Harihara allegedly murdered his mother-in-law and attempted to kill his wife and brother-in-law. Reportedly, he went Chennai in 1993 for work and got married in 1994. However, the relationship between Harihara and his wife turned ugly, following which the lady moved back to her parent’s house and filed a divorce case.

On August 9, 1995, in a fit of rage, Harihara reportedly visited his mother-in-law’s house, where he stabbed his wife, her brother and her mother. They were immediately rushed to hospital. Joshi’s wife and brother-in-law survived from the stab injuries. But, his mother-in-law succumbed to the injuries while undergoing treatment.

Following the incident, a case was registered at the Adambakkam Police Station. Despite trying a lot, police were unable to locate him. Recently, with the help of a black-and-white photograph of Joshi taken at 22 years old, the team collaborated with Ganjam SP Saravanan Vivek and the Odisha Police.

After long search, police nabbed the accused. Further investigation revealed that Harihara was married to another woman in Berhampur of Odisha’s Ganjam district and was living with her.
