Apple Executive Shot Dead In Lucknow; 2 Cops Arrested

Lucknow: A 38-year-old Apple tech executive was shot dead by a Police constable in wee hours of Saturday morning. The deceased man has been identified as Vivek Tiwari. As per reports, he was shot after he refused to stop his SUV for police checking.

The incident took place at around 1:30 am in Gomti Nagar area of Lucknow where Tiwari had reportedly gone to drop home a co-worker. Police said his car was intercepted by two constables who asked him stop. However, Tiwari allegedly first hit the police patrol bike and then rammed a wall while allegedly trying to escape.

The constable Prashant Singh as well as his colleague have been arrested in the case. Singh said he opened fire at the car after noticing ‘suspicious activity’. The bullet pierced through the windscreen and hit Tiwari in the chin who later died at a city hospital due to bullet injury and excessive bleeding. Autopsy reports confirmed injury from a bullet on the left side of the chin. The viscera of the victim has been preserved.

While Police investigating the case have stated that the constable used excessive force, the latter said he open fired in self-defence.

The incident has sent shockwaves across the city and raised questions over deteriorating law and order conditions in UP. Opposition Congress has vehemently lashed out at CM Yogi Adityanath and his government.

On the other hand, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said, “It was not an encounter. An investigation will be conducted in this incident. If needed, we will order a CBI inquiry into the incident.”
