Vijawada: In a bizzare incident, a 75-year-old woman who presumed to be dead by her family, came back home alive and surprised her family. Two weeks after they had performed a funeral mistakenly identifying a decomposed body as hers took place at Jaggaiahpet town in Krishna District of Andhra Pradesh.
Mutyala Girijamma, a resident of Christianpet was admitted on May 12 after she tested positive for the coronavirus and was admitted to a government hospital in Vijayawada. Her husband Gaddaiah met her at the hospital the next day on May 13. But after 2 days on May 15 her family was informed by the hospital administrations that Girijamma had succumbed to her illness.
Her family claim that the on-duty doctor asked them to collect the dead body from the mortuary,.
A dead body was handed over to them, which they brought to their home and performed the last rites on the same day. Due to the fear of catching coronavirus, no one opened the body bag for identification.
Sadly, Girijamma`s son Ramesh also succumbed to coronavirus on May 23.
Meanwhile, Girijamma, who was still in the hospital, had recovered. According to reports, she wondered why no one had come to take her home and returned by herself on Wednesday with much difficulty. Her appearance came as a shock to the family members.
